Racing Stats

When it was built, this track was the first to appear in the southwest for 20 years. It now provides something for every age in terms of motorsport.

A relatively flat 1.5 mile oval with a sweeping 2,275 foot frontstretch, Las Vegas Motor Speedway is a jewel in the desert surrounding the glitz capital of the world. Located at 7000 Las Vegas Boulevard North, approximately 10 miles northeast of the Las Vegas Strip, the track is banked modestly at 12 degrees in the four corners and 9 degrees on the frontstretch.

Owned and operated by Speedway Motorsports, Inc., Las Vegas Motor Speedway opened in 1996 and held its first Winston Cup race on March 1, 1998. Mark Martin won the inaugural Las Vegas 400, and in fact, Jack Roush owned Fords captured the first three Cup races held there, with Jeff Burton winning in 1999 and 2000. Jeff Gordon broke the string with a victory in the Number 24 Chevy in 2001, and Sterling Marlin added the Dodge name to the winner's list in 2002.

With grandstand seating for 126,000, Las Vegas Motor Speedway can accommodate a large confluence of race fans. It's advisable to leave early for the track on race days, since the two main arteries to the track, I-15 and Las Vegas Boulevard, tend to become jammed as the start time nears.

Todd Bodine holds the qualifying record at Las Vegas Motor Speedway - he completed a lap at an average speed of 172.849 mph in March of 2002. In addition to the main speedway, Vegas also features a 2.5 oval road course and a 4,000 foot dragway.
